The SIR30216 – Certificate III in Retail prepares students for customer-facing roles within Australia’s dynamic and diverse retail industry. This qualification equips individuals with the skills needed to engage with customers, manage daily store operations, and deliver exceptional service in line with organisational standards.
Students will develop strong product and service knowledge, learn how to sell effectively, handle customer complaints, and maintain a safe and well-organised store environment. The course also covers workplace health and safety and supports the development of well-rounded retail skills requiring discretion, judgment, and the ability to work independently under limited supervision. Some individuals may also take on responsibility for supervising team members and overseeing daily store tasks.
This qualification offers a pathway to employment in a variety of retail settings, including specialty stores, supermarkets, department stores, and quick service restaurants.

Some units in this course require work placement. To be issued with a SIR30216 – Certificate III in Retail qualification, participants will need to meet all assessment requirements for all units of competency in the course. Please note, in the case that one, or some, but not all of the units of competency are completed, a Statement of Attainment can be issued.
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have the primary responsibility of engaging the customer, maintaining daily store operations and delivering on organisational expectations. They have sound knowledge of product and service offerings. These individuals possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement are required. They work with some independence under limited supervision. Some individuals working at this level are responsible for supervising other team members and monitoring day-to-day workplace operations. The qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings, including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.
